How to Install HP 62XL Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door — Lift the access door on the front of your HP printer. Wait for the carriage to move to the center.
- Remove the old cartridge — Pinch the tab on the front of the cartridge and pull it down to release. Set aside for recycling.
- Unpack the new 62XL cartridge — Remove it from its packaging. Do not touch the copper contacts or ink nozzles.
- Remove the protective tape — Peel off the pink or orange tape covering the nozzles.
- Insert the cartridge — Slide the black cartridge into the left slot (marked with a black label). Push up until it clicks firmly into place.
- Close the access door — Lower the door completely. Your printer will automatically align the cartridge.
- Print a test page — Go to printer settings and run a test print to confirm proper installation and ink flow.

Q: Is the HP 62XL compatible with the same printers as the HP 62? Yes. HP 62 and HP 62XL are interchangeable and fit the same printers. The only difference is capacity — the 62XL is high-yield and prints approximately 3× more pages than the standard 62 black (600 vs. ~200 pages). If you print regularly, the 62XL offers much better value per page.
