Not sure if your printer is compatible? Open the front cover of your Brother printer. The compatible toner number is printed on a label inside the cover — if it shows TN760 or TN730, this cartridge fits.
TN760 vs TN730: What's the Difference?
Both cartridges fit the same printers, but the TN760 is the high-yield version:
| TN730 | TN760 | |
|---|---|---|
| Yield Type | Standard | High Yield |
| Page Yield | ~1,200 pages | ~3,000 pages |
| OEM Price | ~$40–$45 | ~$65–$75 |
| Cost Per Page (OEM) | ~$0.036 | ~$0.024 |
| Compatible? | Same printers | Same printers |
TN760 prints 2.5x more pages than TN730. Even though TN760 costs more upfront, the cost per page is significantly lower — making it the smarter choice for anyone who prints regularly.
TN760 Toner and DR730 Drum: Understanding the Difference
Your Brother printer uses two separate components that are often confused:
TN760 — Toner Cartridge: Contains the black toner powder that creates the image on the page. This is what you replace when you get the "Toner Low" or "Replace Toner" message. Yields ~3,000 pages.
DR730 — Drum Unit: The component that transfers toner to the paper. It lasts much longer — typically through 3–4 toner cartridge replacements, or approximately 12,000 pages. You only replace it when you get a "Replace Drum" message.
When your printer says "Replace Toner," you only need to replace the TN760 cartridge. The DR730 drum stays in place.
How to Install Brother TN760 Toner (Step by Step)
- Open the front cover of your Brother printer and pull out the drum and toner assembly together
- Press the green release tab on the left side of the toner cartridge and lift it out of the drum unit
- Remove the new TN760 from its packaging and rock it gently side to side 5–6 times to distribute the toner evenly
- Slide the new cartridge into the drum unit until it clicks firmly into place
- Reinsert the drum and toner assembly back into the printer
- Close the front cover — the printer initializes automatically
Tip: If your printer displays a "Non-Genuine Toner" message after installation, press OK or Go to dismiss it. This is a one-time notification that does not affect print quality or printer function.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is TN730 the same as TN760? No. They fit the same printers but have different yields. TN760 is the high-yield version (3,000 pages) and TN730 is standard yield (1,200 pages). You can use either in your printer — TN760 just gives you more pages per cartridge.
Is TN660 compatible with TN760? No. The TN660 and TN760 are designed for different printer generations and are not interchangeable. TN660 fits older Brother models (HL-L2320D, MFC-L2700DW), while TN760 fits the newer L-series models listed above.
Will this cartridge void my Brother printer warranty? No. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, Brother cannot void your printer warranty solely because you used a compatible cartridge.
Does the compatible TN760 come with a chip? Yes. Each cartridge includes an updated chip that your Brother printer recognizes immediately. No manual reset required after installation.
How long will 4 cartridges last me? At 3,000 pages per cartridge, this 4-pack gives you 12,000 total pages. At 5% coverage (standard text documents), that's roughly: 12 months for a home office printing 1,000 pages/month, or 4–6 months for a small business printing 2,000–3,000 pages/month.
